Lappeenranta Airport to resume operations in 2018 27.10.2017 21:50Good news for our travellers!
From May 2018, low-cost airline Ryanair is launching flights between Athens (Greece) and Lappeenranta (Finland). Flights will operate every Wednesday until the end of October. This is the first route and could be described as a trial. As a reminder, Lappeenranta Airport ceased operations fairly recently, in 2014, following a sharp fall in passenger numbers caused by the 2014 crisis. Other European airlines are expected to follow Ryanair; at least, Lappeenranta city administration is currently in talks on this. Additional flight destinations are also expected. This is excellent news, especially for Saint Petersburg residents, because by booking transfer to Lappeenranta Airport, you reach the airport in just two to three hours.
Ryanair is targeting Greek fans rather than Russian tourists. They are expected to make up the majority of the airline's customers, as 2018 is approaching and, as you know, Russia will host the FIFA World Cup. At the same time, the low fares on this route mean Russians are also likely to use the service quite actively.
