FiniTrans provides the Russian section. You cross the border independently; partners meet you by the border in Narva and drive you to Tallinn. We operate in both directions.

Independent border crossing

FiniTrans operates the Russian leg to Ivangorod. Passengers cross the border independently. On the Estonian side, our partners meet them at the border in Narva and take them to Tallinn.

Before the journey, we agree the Russian leg and partner pickup. Border crossing time depends on conditions on the day.

From Tallinn to Saint Petersburg

For the return direction, partners take you from Tallinn to Narva. After you cross the border independently, FiniTrans provides the Russian section.

Before the trip

Do we cross the border in one vehicle?

The trip comprises two road journeys. Between them, the passenger crosses the border independently.

Where do the partners meet passengers?

At the border on the Estonian side, in Narva. Pickup details are agreed before the trip.

Can I travel in the opposite direction?

Yes. We operate in both directions: Saint Petersburg–Tallinn and Tallinn–Saint Petersburg.

How the Saint Petersburg–Tallinn transfer works

The journey has two driving sections. First, we take you from Saint Petersburg to Ivangorod. You cross the border independently; partners meet you by the border in Narva on the Estonian side and drive you to Tallinn. The same arrangement can be agreed for the return journey.

State in advance the passenger count and belongings you will need to carry across. Suitcases, a pushchair and bulky items affect the ease of the independent crossing. Meeting points, contacts and procedures for delays are confirmed before departure. Border-crossing time cannot be guaranteed.

Final address and the next stage of the journey

Tallinn can be your final destination or a connection point. Specify the hotel, private address, airport or ferry terminal. For a connection, provide the date and departure details: the word “Tallinn” alone is not enough for a complete plan. Having an onward ticket does not itself determine the meeting time after the border.

Describe the return journey separately. If you are returning to a different address or with a different amount of luggage, tell us before arrangements are confirmed. Travel within Estonia is provided by partners; a guided tour, tickets and onward travel beyond the agreed section are not automatically included.

Tallinn, Narva and other destinations in Estonia

Travel to Estonia may be for a family visit, business meeting, hotel check-in or onward departure from Tallinn. Specify your exact aim: reaching Narva, continuing to Tallinn or agreeing another address with partners. An airport or ferry terminal should not be described merely as “the centre”.

Beyond Tallinn, you could consider a walk and shopping in Narva, a visit to Pühtitsa Convent in Kuremäe or a spa hotel stay. The destination pages provide information to help choose your programme. The availability of each onward option, visiting times and partner transport are discussed separately: a published guide does not mean a shared sightseeing service is currently operating.

Connections, luggage and communication across two sections

When planning, allow for the independent section between vehicles as well as the drive. Passengers carry their own belongings across the border. If you have many suitcases or a pushchair, or anyone finds extended walking difficult, explain this before agreeing the route and consider a suitable way to travel.

Before departure, agree on the drop-off point in Russia, the meeting point in Narva, partners' contact details and how to communicate if delayed. For the return journey, first arrange pickup in Tallinn and transport to Narva, then the independent border crossing and pickup on the Russian side. Crossing time cannot be treated as a fixed interval between the two vehicles.
