Journey planning

Shopping trip to Helsinki

Shopping has its own logistics: shop addresses, opening hours, the volume of goods and time for the return journey.

Make a short list of shops

  • Provide specific addresses and shopping priorities.
  • Check opening hours for your chosen date with the shops themselves.
  • Assess your luggage in advance and check purchase import rules independently.

Shopping in the centre and a mall visit are different plans

In central Helsinki, shopping can be combined with a walk along Aleksanterinkatu and the Esplanadi; Stockmann is one landmark for this plan. If you need a particular shopping centre beyond walking distance, give its name and address separately. Visiting the centre and travelling to another shopping destination occupy different parts of the day.

Separate essential shopping from optional purchases. Clothes, groceries and bulky items may be in different shops, so a short list of addresses is more useful than a promise to “visit everything”. Agree a specific point for returning to the minivan, especially if the group splits up between shops.

Final destination and return journey

A hotel, private address, port and Helsinki Airport are different arrival points. Ferry connections require the terminal name and departure details; airport journeys require the flight and date. Add the return address if you leave from somewhere else.
